While developed by Harebrained Schemes, this is also a Paradox joint, which means even if you don't buy in, you've got a massive feature-heavy free update to dig into. No longer limited to rolling hills, mountains and military bases, this expansion adds the future cityscapes of other 'Mech games. I'm hoping (if I stick through the grind) that it will be more satisfying mid- and late-game, where I'm forced to use some different heavy mechs/loadouts instead of pretty much skipping right to my preferred lance pretty quickly in end-game.Stompybot squad management sim Batteltech was great, but it was clearly missing something. Not so today, with the release of the Urban Warfare expansion, second of three planned for the squad tactics game's season pass. It is definitely more challenging, but also quite grindy, I get impatient and try some 3-skull missions and the game throws Maraduers at my Commando.

are exacerbating the difficulty early game, and it's a little frustrating playing dozens of missions before being able to assemble even ONE new mech to upgrade your lance.

then becomes super easy with SLDF 100-tonners with full 10s pilots and +++ weapons. The issue to me is the game starts off at a decent challenge with green pilots missing every shot in light mechs. So I'm playing 5-piece salvage, no Black Market, and slower MW experience. Lethality means your pilots are guaranteed to die if their 'Mech is cored (I forget if they auto-die from full wounds - this rarely happens after you get cockpit mods).Īfter a couple of play-throughs, I had the same concerns - 3-piece salvage seemed too easy end-game, and pilots had all 10s by mid-game. The ones that affect gameplay (random missions difficulty, lethality) add some but not much difficulty. To summarize: almost all the difficulty settings are different flavors of slowing down the player's power growth via economy. Spare equipment from the randomized salvage picks tends to pile up (extra lasers and heat sinks) and makes you a reasonable steady income so reducing salvage feels mostly like an economic limiter, which in turn slows down your power growth.

Stingy salvage reduces the available "picks" per mission which imolicitly limits how quickly you can acquire 'Mechs. Setting the parts for salvage is more impactful, in my opinion, because you'll have spare 'Mechs to sell less frequently. It affects random mission payouts, but buying/selling salvage is most of the economy. Having to spend a week or two being fitted with weapons for each new 'Mech also slows down you advancement (and puts a little pressure on your economy, but weapons are usually cheap).Įven with stingy C-Bills, the story missions will still offer great payouts. It controls whether 'Mechs you assemble with parts come with a loadout or empty. "Equipped 'Mechs" is a big difference too. A few people swear by it, but I can't say I enjoyed it when I did the related achievement. I got Flashpoint DLC but I held off on Urban warfare since I heard something about the stuff you get in it might make you overpowered in the campaign?Ĩ parts is a slog. Be aware I do not mind "The grind" I am more interested in a more immersive feel that make sense to the lore and setting, while also not being too out of place in the game itself.ĮDIT: Also curious if any expansions are a must to improve campaign. Normally I'd love to require many parts, but after learning you still only get 3 parts after a headshot, it feels like it would not make much sense to increase it very high at all, like the game was designed around 3 parts to make a mech.Īnyone able to help me out here? D: Also curious about economy difficulty settings as well. My biggest question is the mech assmbly parts thing. Now the game got a bunch of difficulty settings and im just squirming trying to think what is appropriate for a "Proper Battletech feel." Starting campaign again after I stopped somewhere in the middle when the first came out.
